   Year2
Year 2 have been working on their letter-writing skills throughout the year. Here they imagine they are the little boy Duncan from Giles Andreae’s hilarious book The Day The Crayons Quit; apologising for the crayons’ various grievances!
                                                                     23
              Dear Yellow Crayon,
I would like to begin by apologising for using orange more than yellow. I just really like orange. Firstly I need to let you know you are a really nice colour. You are quite right when you say that you feel lonely, that you don’t get used very often. I have an idea about how to make it right between us.
How about this for an idea? I would like to make it better by drawing a picture of a desert. There would be lots of yellow in the picture.
Yours sincerely,
Duncan

Dear Peach Crayon,
I would like to start by apologising. Firstly I need you to know you are quite right, I shouldn’t have ripped your wrapper off. I just got so carried away, please forgive me. I wanted to see more of your beautiful colour.
I have an idea about how to make it right between us...I can make you a new cosy coat.
Your dearly sorry friend,
Lila I

Dear Pink Crayon,
I would like to begin by apologising for not using you much. Please forgive me. I will make it better by using you more. I will use you for colouring flowers, dragons and cowboys if you want. I will colour the sunset with you!
You are right when you say that I don’t use you so much because I think you are a girl colour.
I will make it better by using you more because boys can use pink, too, as well as girls.
Your friend,
Duncan

Dear Blue Crayon,
I would like to apologise that I have used you a lot just because you are the best and most wonderful crayon in the crayon box.
It wasn’t my fault, beg my pardon! Firstly I need you to know that you are so beautiful. You are quite right when you say that you are used. I’m so sorry! I can get a new blue who can be your friend so don’t be sad.
I have an idea about how to make it right between us by not using you too much. I can use some other colours such as green and purple to paint the sea.
I can make the sky orange and purple.
Your very sorry friend,
Duncan

Dear Purple Crayon,
I apologise for not colouring in the lines. I don’t like being last, so I rush my work a bit. Firstly, I need to let you know I am very, very sorry and you are quite right about colouring in the lines.
I have an idea of how to make it better. In school, in art, we are doing a neat dragon picture, I will do a purple dragon. Let me know if that’s okay.
Your friend,
Duncan
