 U11 County Champions.
We started the term with our annual trip to the Olympic Hockey stadium in Stratford organised by Haileybury. A number of Year 6 girls enjoyed
a carousel of skill-based activities followed by a mini tournament. It was a great start to the term, which proved highly successful for the U11’s.
Our senior team had a fantastic term, too, with our first team winning all their competitive matches within our normal games circuit. They were placed 3rd in the County, a fantastic achievement considering the size of our cohort.
Izzy E captained the team with incredible drive and commitment, and happily played both in goal and out on pitch when required. Willa P, as our energetic vice-captain, again proved unstoppable on the wing. All the girls in Years 7 and 8 competed on a regular basis and continued to show great determination. Lucy W and Izzy E both play at County level and are inspiring to watch in their pursuit of excellence.
We mixed our Year 5 and 6 girls to ensure everyone was able to play in as many competitive matches as possible. Our U11A team were undefeated and the highlight of the term was seeing them crowned County Champions. The squad included Harrie S and Scarlett BE from Year 5 who I am sure will bring extra strength to next year’s U11 team with this added experience. We had some fantastic skill development throughout our U11 and U10 teams with girls keen to try out in goal.
We introduced indoor hockey this
term and some of our Year 6 girls took part in an indoor festival at Haileybury, where our fitness proved important. We learnt a lot about tactics, which are very different on a fast indoor surface!
Our Year 4’s, meanwhile, dealt with wearing all their protective equipment for the first time with ease! We entered a festival at Felsted which saw the team finish as runners-up in a strong field. The girls played both on the astro and on the grass at home, which helped them with the strength of their passing. They are a keen and very able year group and we are sure will see much success built on the strong foundations of their skill development in Years 3 and 4.
The U13 girls battled the elements at the County Championships.
Sport
Girls’ Hockey
During the season we were delighted
to welcome back Welsh Hockey international Annie Wade-Jones who left Heath Mount in 2017 with a sports scholarship to Felsted. She returned to donate a Wales Hockey goalkeeper shirt for our alumni ‘honours wall’ in the Sports Hall. Annie is part of the Wales Junior Team and is playing full women’s first team hockey for Chelmsford HC. Frances Paxman
Year 4 have shown great passion for playing hockey.
