Date: November 2019 Year Group: 5 Expedition: DUKES BARN DERBYSHIRE
In their first residential adventure at Heath Mount, our Year 5 pupils went weaselling in the cracks and caves of Higgar Tor, squeezed through some tight spots while caving in Mouldridge Mine and abseiled off a disused railway bridge! The children also spent time on the climbing wall, tackled team challenges on the low ropes course and enjoyed the dark woods and moorland on an exciting night hike. The wet and chilly conditions they faced added an extra layer of challenge at times, but the children showed impressive resilience and spirit throughout.
In my opinion it’s the best trip ever! William T
At the Indoor climbing centre there was an incredibly high zip wire which we clipped ourselves to and glided through the air. It was a wonderful feeling, as if I was flying! It was the most fun and challenging few days where I conquered my fears and I had lots of new experiences with my friends. Isobel P
I had the most brilliant time at Dukes Barn. I overcame fears of being up high, stayed away from home and developed my team work. It was a fantastic few days and I was so sad to leave. Amelie M
There were some really tiny gaps in the weaselling challenge and I got stuck in one but I still enjoyed it! Amelie B

We went caving in an old mine made of limestone. Our instructor said that the limestone was 600 million years old. In the caves, it was very hot, wet and narrow. I was feeling excited, ecstatic even but also a bit claustrophobic! Oliver W
