Barnardo’s National Choral Competition
Our Bax Choir travelled to the Royal Festival Hall on Monday, 9th March to take part in the final of this prestigious national choral competition. The children sang Bob Chilcott’s Like a Singing Bird and J’entends Le Moulin for the competition phase in the morning before returning for an evening concert where they performed Chilcott’s lyrical piece to a packed auditorium. Like a Singing Bird interweaves texts from Robert Burns and Christina Rosetti and it was wonderful to see our choristers take flight in song at this world-class venue. Bax joined together with
the other finalists for a rousing massed choral finale of World in Union and the traditional Barnardo’s song. It was an inspiring and memorable experience for the children, and we are immensely proud of their achievements. Bax performed amongst an impressive list of finalists and it was a privilege to take part and perform on the renowned
Royal Festival Hall stage.
Bax Choir Sing in Union with
Katherine Jenkins and Marisha Wallace
In a thrilling end to the academic year, the Bax Choir collaborated with the legendary Katherine Jenkins, Marisha Wallace and the London Concert Orchestra, featuring as the Children’s Choir in a virtual recording of World in Union. The video was released at the end of June and has since been viewed around the globe more than 70,000 times!
Eighty-five musicians took part in this incredible collaboration, including forty-four choristers from Heath Mount, all of whom had been rehearsing online during the Summer term. The children learnt the arrangement with Miss White and then recorded their voice parts individually at home, before they were expertly edited together by Anthony Inglis and the London Concert Orchestra. Heath Mount’s talented violinists Mr and Mrs Hembrough could also be seen in the video playing with the LCO! It was truly magical to hear the sublime music of World in Union echoing through the corridors and across the school grounds as the whole community celebrated this special achievement.
