Recite!
2020
Children in our Prep School took part in
the annual Recite! event. The event took place over three weeks, beginning with the class heats, where the pupils performed
to their classmates. As always, the pupils excelled, presenting an eclectic mix of poems; including old classics, modern gems and comedy masterpieces. We were also pleased to see many of our budding poets offering their own self-penned pieces.
The event culminated in our Recite Showcase, where a group of our pupils shared their performances one final time in front of an audience of pupils, teachers and parents. Miss Broom, our Head of English, compèred and was joined by special guest judges Mrs Butt, our Pre-Prep Literacy
Coordinator, and Mrs Speight from the English department at Bishop’s Stortford College. In the showcase, pupils are judged on the quality of their performance, with prizes available for the ‘Best Performed Poem’ and the ‘Best Performed Original Poem’ (The Evelyn Prize). Miss Broom says, “The best moment of Recite is walking through the corridors after the showcases have finished and hearing our pupils excitedly discussing their favourites!”
