Pupils Head To The Peak District For Their First Residential
This week marked Year 5 pupils' first experience of staying away from home on a school trip as well as many other 'firsts' including caving, abseiling and weaselling. The staff were immensely proud of the pupils for helping support each other and for showing such resilience and enthusiasm. The children and staff stayed at Dukes Barn in Beeley, Matlock, surrounded by the spectacular landscape of the Peak District. During their stay they had the opportunity to explore underground caves, go on an exciting night walk to Chatsworth, try out the indoor climbing wall and work on their team building skills in the outdoor ropes area. Delicious meals kept everyone well fuelled for the day's activities, while the games room and living room provided a home-from-home feel in the evenings.
Here are some of the children's thoughts about their trip:
" I was proud of myself for staying overnight without my parents." Suki
"When we were caving, it was small and dark - it was a bit scary at times and felt very claustrophobic, but we did it!" Orla and Emily
"I faced my fear of heights when we went weaselling; before, I was worried but when I got to know it, I really enjoyed it." Alanna
"The bacon sandwiches were glorious!" A group of appreciative boys!
