Young Musicians Showcase Their Talent In First Concert Of The Year.
The Performing Arts Centre was buzzing with excitement on Tuesday evening as we held our first Orchestras and Ensembles Concert since February 2020. 75 instrumentalists performed, and the audience was treated to an engaging programme with a variety of repertoire ranging from the William Tell Overture and Scarborough Fair, to jazz and film themes. The Prep School (Year 3-8) boasts a whopping eight instrumental ensembles and two orchestras, one of which is bursting at the seams with 45 players. Instrumental parts for our Junior Orchestra and Wind Band are written for our pupils by the talented Mr Fisher, who ensures that all ranges of ability are catered for, enabling our pupils to perform the ultimate collaboration in making music together, no matter their grade standard.
The quality of playing was nothing short of outstanding and it is wonderful to see how our players are progressing with their ensemble playing skills, particularly in the chamber groups. The String Septet performance of Ases Tod by Grieg was stunning and Senior Strings was conducted very professionally (!) by William (Year 7), who shows great promise in the art of conducting. The tempo increased towards the end of the programme with the jazz classic, Splanky, and the well-known tunes of Pink Panther, September, Demons, Superstition, and Seven Nation Army.
All of our incredible ensembles will perform again in the Summer Concert, and we look forward to celebrating their success later in the year. Thank you to all of our instrumentalists for a fantastic evening of truly wonderful music which would not be achieved without many hours of rehearsal and dedicated practice.
