We are a thriving Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep School for boys and girls aged 2-13 situated in 40 acres of beautiful parkland near Hertford.  

Choosing a school for your child is a big decision and our open morning is an ideal opportunity to meet our pupils and staff to gain a feel for what makes Heath Mount such a special place to learn and achieve. 

We warmly invite prospective families to join us on a normal school day on Tuesday 29th April, 9-11am, for a tour of the school followed by refreshments in the main mansion house.  Please book your place using our online registration form.

Headmaster's Welcome 

Welcome to Heath Mount, our outstanding co-educational Prep school set in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside.  Childhoods are cherished here and children are nurtured as we give them the opportunities to explore their talents and deepen their learning.  It is my privilege to lead a dedicated team of teachers who are passionate about opening up new avenues of learning for every child whilst giving them the space and time to imagine, create and play.

Happy children learn best and we are proud of our award-winning pastoral care which underpins our commitment to creative and academic excellence.  Children are valued as individuals and we seek to develop the talents of every child whilst preparing them for the exciting and dynamic challenges that lie ahead.  We foster a love of learning whilst encouraging skills of initiative, determination and independence that will last a lifetime.  Our pupils look outwards from a secure and happy start.

Academic Success

Our pupils move on to a wide variety of day and boarding schools both locally and further afield, including some of the most prestigious and academically-selective secondaries in the country.  In the last two years, pupils have taken up places at Haileybury, Bishop’s Stortford College, The Leys, Oundle, St Edmund's College, St Alban's School, Ampleforth, Eton, Harrow, Framlingham, Gresham’s, Uppingham, Millfield, Radley, Rugby, Sedbergh, St Francis College, St Columba's, St Chris and Tudor Hall.  

In 2024, 54% of our Year 8 pupils were awarded scholarships (academic, all-round, art, sport, music and drama) to their senior schools. 

Admissions

Most children join us at the start of the academic year in September but if circumstances mean you need to join at another point in the year, we will work with you and your child to ensure they have a smooth transition.  If a place isn’t available straight away, we are always happy to add your child to a waiting list.  Nursery pupils can join in the term they turn 3 and join our popular Pre-Nursery group.

We accept childcare vouchers and tax-free childcare payments for ‘qualifying childcare’ i.e. care provided for any child aged three (or rising three, which means a child who will be three before the end of term) up to and including the term in which your child turns five years old. This means that you can use childcare vouchers or tax-free childcare to pay for your child’s Nursery Fees and also for part of the School Fees for their Reception year.

We also accept childcare vouchers and tax-free childcare payments for approved childcare on the school premises outside of normal school hours, i.e. Wraparound Care, Before and After School Activities, and Boarding. Many of our holiday activity providers also accept such payments.

Please note we do not offer the 15 or 30 hour free childcare for 3 and 4 year olds.
