The Royal guardsmen were in charge of proceedings on Tuesday as we hosted our Jubilee-themed sports days in glorious sunshine. After some traditional running races the children completed a Jubilee fun run in their relay teams. Nursery and Reception children had to put on crowns and cloaks at top speed before picking up up a corgi en route! They then had to 'knight' some of our staff volunteers including Headmaster Mr Gillam and Deputy Head Pastoral, Mr Spowart with their swords! In the Royal Ascot-themed race, the children 'rode' hobby-horses down the track to the thunderous applause of the spectators before speeding away on scooters. An impressive number of mums and dads stepped forward for the parent races, gamely donning giant feet, cloaks and crowns to complete the fun course.
In the afternoon, Years 1 and 2 paraded with a colourful array of Commonwealth flags as they embarked on a Jubilee and Commonwealth-themed set of races including a Royal Relay with shining golden sceptres as batons and a cardboard carriage race. Hilarity ensued as the parents attempted to fit in the carriages for their grown-ups' race!
