Pupils Mark A Historic First Day Back To School
The start of an academic year always offers a fresh start and new beginnings as we welcome back current pupils and those children commencing their Heath Mount journey. The first day of the Michaelmas term 2023, however, also marked a new beginning for our traditional House system. having bid farewell to the three Houses of Tristram, Galahad and Percivale in July, pupils and staff celebrated the launch of our new 4 Houses named after historic local buildings: Knebworth, Hatfield, Sacombe and Woodhall.
There were celebratory scenes outside the main mansion building as our Heads of House handed out t-shirts in the new House colours and led their groups in a series of fun games; encouraging pupils from Years 2-8 to get to know each other. Within no time at all our charismatic leaders had soon instilled some serious House loyalty amongst their groups. It was no surprise to see that Heath Mount pupils displayed camaraderie and enthusiasm from the outset, with older pupils ensuring their younger counterparts were included and cared for! We now look forward to seeing whether the blues, pinks, yellows or greens top the House Point leader board by the end of term.
About our House System
Heath Mount's House programme provides the perfect opportunity for pupils to connect across year groups and to foster a sense of belonging from day one. The common goal of achieving points for their House encourages a friendly spirit of rivalry and motivates each child to do their best - whether in the classroom, representing our school values or through team sports and activities. Our annual programme of House events gives the pupils team-building opportunities alongside leadership roles for our senior pupils. All siblings are allocated into the same house while each staff member is also assigned a House.
