Year 4 Swimmer Wins Gold at IAPS National Swim Finals
On Saturday, eight of our pupils travelled to the London Aquatic Centre to compete at the IAPS National Swimming finals. We are proud to announce that Year 4 pupil Charlie was crowned the national champion 50m butterfly for the u10's (in the Year 5 age group!). He executed his race plan perfectly; finishing second in the heats and leaving enough in the tank for the final push. He also achieved a personal best time of 35.61.
There were also two bronze medals to add to Charlie's gold thanks to superb swims by Billy (u10) and Izaak (u11) in the 50m breaststroke. Billy executed a brilliant dive and underwater phase to give him the best start against his opponents and also swam a personal best time of 42.79 to finish in 3rd. Izaak swam an incredible race with barely anything in it between the top four who all finished within 0.32 seconds of one another! Izaak swam a personal best time of 40.81 to finish in 3rd position and take home the bronze medal.
Every swimmer who took part gave it their all on the day and were each other's biggest cheerleaders. It was the most successful IAPS Swimming finals in Heath Mounts history - made possible by hours of hard work, dedication and commitment. Ms Prior, Head of Swimming, would like to thank the pupils and parents for their commitment and dedication to swimming both in school and at club level as well as Mrs Heard and Mr Elliott for their support in preparing the students.
