Pupils win silver in two events at IAPS Nationals
Yesterday, our national IAPS finalists made their way to the newly renovated Alexander Stadium in Birmingham to compete against the best of the country’s Prep School athletes. We were thrilled to see Junior H take the silver medal in the U12 200m and to pick up a second silver as part of our successful 4x100m relay team alongside Zura U, Izaak W and William S. Other significant achievements included Osa O’s 5th place finish in the discus, and Izaak W’s 11th place in the javelin. William S, who was racing a year young, led the 800m right up until the final 200m, eventually finishing in 6th place.
These brilliant results concluded one of the most successful athletics seasons in Heath Mount athletics history at both regional and national level. Our youngest competitors showcased their talents at the annual East Anglian Prep Schools Athletics Championships held at the prestigious Cambridge University Athletics Track. Competing against 25 other schools, the Heath Mount squad delivered excellent performances throughout the day. Livia P in the U10 girls’ Ball Throw and William B in the U10 Boys’ 600m earned the title of ‘East Anglian Prep Schools Athletics Champion’ with their outstanding performances.
Earlier in the term, our Middle and Upper School athletes excelled at the Regional Athletics Finals. The U12 boys 4x100m relay team (Junior H, William S, Isaac W and Zura U) ran a brilliant race to become regional champions. Individually, William S took gold in the U12 800m while Junior H (U12 200m), Isaac W (U12 Javelin) and Osa O (U13 Discus) all took silver medals home. Other notable top five finishes included Osa O placing 3rd in the U13 Shot Put, Zura U finishing 4th in the U12 100m, Immy R securing 5th in the U12 Javelin, and Toby C placing 5th in the U12 High Jump.
