Our early years pupils have welcomed in the Year of the Tiger with a host of fun activities this week.  In Nursery, children helped bring their own dragon to life, banged loud instruments to scare off evil spirits, made beautiful paper lanterns and used lucky red and gold colours to paint special prints.  They even learnt how to draw numbers up to 10 in Mandarin to paint on their hand-made stick drums.    Reception pupils, meanwhile, read the story 'Dragons In The City' and learnt about the 'red envelope tradition' and how they are exchanged as a symbol of love and blessings.  They heard how the colour red symbolises energy, happiness, and good luck in Chinese cultures. Pupils thought about their wishes for the new lunar year and wrote them on lucky red card to hang on a special wishing tree.
