Miss Sophie Meister, Heath Mount's Assistant Director of Sport, has been crowned National Netball Teacher Of The Year at the England Netball One Awards. The award recognises her outstanding contribution to netball in an educational environment and the way in which she has inspired her pupils as a positive role model. Everyone at Heath Mount is thrilled that Miss Meister's above-and-beyond approach has been recognised at such a prestigious national event.
Alongside the regional winners of each of the 10 award categories, Miss Meister was invited to a special celebration at the Belfry Hotel in Sutton Coldfield hosted by England Netball CEO Fran Connolly. Guests included Vitality Roses Head Coach Jess Thirlby (pictured above with Miss Meister) and Netball World Cup debutants Funmi Fadoju and Olivia Tchine.
Miss Meister has certainly passed on her love of netball to the girls at Heath Mount, encouraging them every step of the way - whether in lessons or after-school clubs. In the last academic year, we were one of only two schools in the country to make it to three national IAPS finals and each of our teams (U11,U12,U13) finished in the top ten! Her enthusiasm has rubbed off on many of our pupils who have been pursuing netball to a high level outside of school too. Many of our netballers play at county level and two of our Year 8 leavers were recently selected for the U15 Saracens Mavericks Futures pathway.
