Three Instrumental Groups Achieve Awards
The UK Schools Music Festival is a brand-new competition dedicated to promoting music education and inspiring young musicians throughout the UK. This year the competition was run virtually, and we sent in three recordings. The judges evaluate performances based on overall musical performance including: interpretation and expression, creative presentation, technical proficiency and the synergy between the ensemble members.
We are delighted to reveal that our Concert Band achieved a Silver Award (one point away from Gold) as did our Symphony Orchestra, while our Chamber Strings achieved Bronze. The judges commented on the children's stage presence, noting that it was great to see them having fun on stage, as well as praising their "incredible level of performing and playing". Our Symphony Orchestra, who performed a seven-minute performance of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No.5, were commended for tackling such challenging repertoire and demonstrating "a great effort and love for the art of music."
