Heath Mount Alumna Helps Team GB To 4x400m Bronze

Heath Mount has its first Olympic medallist!  Jodie Williams, (HM 2002-2012), was a member of the GB women’s 4x400m relay squad that finished third at the Paris Olympics behind the USA and the Dutch.  Although she was not in the final, Jodie claimed a medal alongside finalists Victoria Ohuruogu, Laviai Nielsen, Nicole Yeargin and Amber Annin after participating in the earlier heats.

The talented 30-year-old sprinter, who successfully moved up from 200m to 400m during the pandemic, returned for her third Olympics which will likely be her last as she contemplates retirement.  Her illustrious career, which began when she was a junior (when she won 151 consecutive races including the 100m and 200m double at the 2009 Youth World Championships), has taken her to the podium at World, European and Commonwealth level, achieving individual medals over the 100, 200 and 400m and relay medals in the 4x100m. She was more recently part of the bronze medal team at the 2022 European Championships which ran the third-fastest time for a GB women’s quartet.

Williams, who lives and trains in Arizona but hails from Welwyn Garden City, is also an active advocate for women and girls' rights.

Another Heath Mount pupil also made their mark at this year's Olympics, this time on the hockey pitch.  James Albery, (HM 2006-2009), added ‘Olympian’ to his list of accomplishments after helping Team GB reach the quarter-finals in Paris.  James famously scored the winning goal against France in the pool stages before the team lost out 4-2 to India.
