Orchestras & Ensembles Concert

Instrumentalists from Year 3-8 Showcase Their Talent

Last night's Orchestras & Ensembles Concert featured the talents of children from Years 3-8 and an extraordinary range of instruments. The diverse musical programme encompassed challenging repertoire from classical composers such as Bach, Sibelius and Vivaldi but also delved into modern pieces by Van Morrison and Mancini.

It was testament to the music department's belief in the children that pupils tackled the likes of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No3 and Vivaldi's Four Seasons.  The Symphony Orchestra was chosen to end the evening with a rousing and spectacular performance of Sibelius' Finlandia.

It would not be a Heath Mount concert, of course, without some fun accessories and audience participation.  Concert Band brought the party spirit with their Part Dance Mix, adding sunglasses, headbands and feather boas part way through the piece!  The audience, meanwhile, stamped their feet and clapped their hands for Wind Band's ode to football anthems in Stadium Rock and clicked their fingers for the Scholars Band performance of The Addams Family theme tune!

Other memorable moments included a fantastic line-up of our percussionists who raised the roof with their amazing rhythms, and guitar group who provided a gentler change of pace with Van Morrison's Moondance.

Mr Gillam, Headmaster, praised the children for rehearsing so hard and producing performances well beyond their years.  He also thanked Mr Fisher and the music department for instilling such a passion for music in our pupils and for giving them the chance to excel through the incredible variety of extra-curricular music clubs on offer.
