Teachers Win Premiership Rugby Semi-Final!

Congratulations to Saracens players Lotte Sharp & Sydney Gregson

Heath Mount pupils and parents turned out in force to see Year 4 teacher Mrs Sharp and Year 2 teacher Miss Gregson beat the Harlequins 32-24 at StoneX on Saturday.  Lotte and Sydney, who both combine premiership and international rugby careers with teaching, are thrilled to be heading to the final on March 16th against Gloucester.

Lotte says: "It’s always brilliant having the children and parents from school in the crowd. You can hear them shouting ‘Go Mrs Sharp!’. We knew it was going to be a tough semi-final so having a home advantage, being able to have so many Saracen supporters there gives the team that extra energy.

Saracens won the bid for the PWR final this year, which means we will be back at Stone X on Sunday 16th March. It’s always so special being able to go and see the children after the game, seeing the excitement on their faces. A few families had already booked their final tickets there and then!

Although the final is the main focus for me now, that’s not where my season ends. I am hoping to be selected for USA in the PAC4, where we will play Canada, New Zealand and Australia. From there, World Cup pre-season commences in July, where I hope to earn myself a spot in the 2025 World Cup squad. The Women’s Rugby World Cup is being held in England this year (22nd August -27th September), so it would be incredible to play where women’s rugby is at an all-time high."

"The semi-final was an amazing day," adds Sydney. "The sun was shining, we had a fantastic crowd, and we beat our rivals. What more could you ask for?! After falling short in the home semi-final last year, we knew how important it was to get to the final this season. We now have two weeks to prepare for it. This will include lots of training with the team, plenty of rest and recovery (including a trip to an ice plunge and sauna) and making sure our nutrition is on point (thankfully, food at Heath Mount is so good)."
