Heath Mount is undoubtedly a sporty school! Every child can be successful in the right sport and at Heath Mount we take time to find the right sport for each child. We believe that developing personal, social and physical skills through a broad sports curriculum enables our children to flourish both inside and outside the classroom. Our diverse programme of sports activities develops pupils' confidence and resilience through physical, technical and mental stimulus, and exposure to teamwork and leadership opportunities.
Each week, children spend at least 3.5 hours within the Physical Education, Swimming or Games curriculum. In addition to curriculum sports, pupils are also encouraged to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular squad and team training sessions.
Every child has the chance to represent the school and regularly has the opportunity to compete, with many children going on to achieve success at both County and National level. Our extensive facilities include several grass pitches, an indoor swimming pool, an all-weather astro court, netball courts, spacious sports hall, dance studio, fitness suite, cricket nets and pavilion.
We have been delighted to welcome the Hertfordshire County Cricket Club for training sessions with children from the Pre-Prep up as well as Saracens Rugby and Mavericks netball players. Heath Mount is a member of the Saracens Schools Partnership.

Physical Education & Swimming
Physical Education and Swimming lessons are part of the curriculum for children in Reception through to Year 6, with the objective being to acquire fundamental physical competencies and foster an intrinsic love of being physically active. The swimming and sports provision in further up the school in Year 7 and 8 continues with a broad selection of clubs including swimming, lifesaving and gym fitness to name a few. Children leave Heath Mount with the confidence and desire to continue being active and involved in sports beyond Heath Mount.
Competitive Sports
All children, irrespective of their particular sporting talents, are encouraged to represent the school or their house in regular competitive fixtures. We are proud of our achievement in promoting every child in Years 3 to 8 to confidently represent the school on match days. There are also opportunities for our more advanced individuals and squads to play in county, regional and national competitions where we regularly experience significant success. In the Michaelmas term we offer football and hockey, in the Lent term, rugby and netball, and in the Summer term, cricket.
Our pupils also have opportunities to play other team or individual sports, such as athletics, cross country, golf, table tennis, gymnastics and swimming. For example, we regularly finish in the top 10 nationally for various athletics and swimming events. Of course, playing for your school or your house is more than just about performance on the field; our pupils take considerable pride in being part of a sports team, whether they are in a senior first team or playing a competitive sport for the first time in Year 3.

Alternative Sports
For children in Year 5 and above who are not keen to participate in regular fixtures, we offer an alternative sporting programme on a Wednesday afternoon. The children are able to challenge themselves physically and mentally by abseiling, climbing and canoeing among other exciting opportunities.
Sports Scholarship Programme
“The programme at Heath Mount ensured I was ready and prepared for senior school scholarship assessments. I know in the future I will refer back to lots of things I learnt during the programme and I will continue to use the training methods from our morning sessions.”
